Mouth Guard Types
Preferred: Custom-Made Mouthguards – These are usually done through a mold and can be done through a dental place. Different dental places have different pricing, so it can be worth it to call around for prices. Some health benefits will cover the cost, and no x-rays are needed for this. This type of mouth guard is much more comfortable, allows for the ability to talk, drink water, and breath easily. They also provide much better protection. If you are planning to continue with Krav Maga, this is highly recommended. Average price range for this is ~$150-$300
Boil & Bite or Pre-Set Mouthguards – These are more inexpensive and therefore, are good if you are still figuring out if you would like to continue with Krav Maga. They can be bulky, uncomfortable, more likely to move/offer less protection, and some find it difficult to breathe while wearing one.
Shin guards
Required– Molded Foam - the cloth/fabric style does not offer enough protection, and the hard plastic versions are not allowed because they can cause injuries. (foot protection not needed)
Groin Gear
*These can go under or over uniforms depending on the style
Males:
These come in many different styles, types, materials, and offer a wide range of protection options.
Females:
Hard Cup style – (eg. Lobloo) – These often come with straps or can be used without straps layered in with personal clothing or brief/shorts designed with a groin gear pocket. These are popular as they are often more comfortable, fit all sizes, fit securely, and do not impede mobility/movement as they often only cover a small area.
Traditional Martial Arts Style “Diaper-style” – These can provide more coverage protection, especially if you are looking for abdomen coverage. These do tend to be bulky, they can impact/reduce mobility, are often less comfortable, and not designed for all bodies.
